Camp Oty Okwa

This year for all the sixth graders we went to Camp Oty Okwa. It was my first time going there. I was a little scared then after a while everyone was helping each other out. We stayed there for three days.

Day 1:

On the first day, we got there and unloaded our bags. They had bunk beds and I bunked with one of friends, Jared. After we got are stuff unloaded and went outside. We was playing around then a guy came out and said ” Come over and I put you into your groups.”  I couldn’t wait to get see who was in my group. When the guy put us in the groups, I was ready to do the first class. The first class, we had to find stuff on three different maps. Then we went out into woods and we had to use a compass. The challenge was to use a compass and try to be the first one to finish.  My group was the first one to finish. It took us awhile but we finished the task. After the first class we had lunch. We had cheese burgers, fries, milk and juice. When lunch was over we had are second classes.

The second class, my group got a little better at working together.  I can’t remember what the second class was but my group was better at paying attention instead of talking a lot.  I was starting to like outside a little better because there are more activities. When the second class was over we had free time. During free time I played basketball.  Free time is a time where you get to do pretty much anything.

At the end of free time we all had dinner. We had fried chicken, mash potatoes, green beans and juice or milk. I really liked the mash potatoes. During dinner we was having good time talking to each other. We was talking about camp and saying how fun it was. After dinner we had a guy come in with snakes. He had a ball python and it was 14 feet long.

Finally at 11:00 am we finally went to bed. Before I went to bed, I just couldn’t wait until tomorrow. The first day was a blast!!!!

Day 2:

On day two Mr.McGuire woke us up with two pans. I woke up and took me a shower. I felt a little bit better. Then we went into the dining hall to have breakfast.  The breakfast was good. After breakfast we had our first class. The first class was stream study. During stream study, I dropped my camera in the water. So I had Mr.Congrove fix it and he did. Then I put my disk in and I put it in the wrong way.

The next thing was lunch. We had chicken patties, cheese potatoes and something else. Then are group had our evening class.  I can’t remember what it was but the point of the class was to work together with your partner. My partner was Ridge. One game we played was tank. It was hard but I won when it was my turn. Ridge didn’t really do well as being the commander but he got better at it when we got further alone playing.

After the class we had dinner. We had pizza, chips, coleslaw and juice or milk. I had 12 pieces of pizza. It was good. The only thing I couldn’t eat was the coleslaw. After our dinner we had our group skits. My group’s skit was the important paper. The important paper was toilet paper.

After our skits we had our camp fire. It was nice to get some heat because I was a little cold. Then we had to go to bed.  The last day was our next day.

Day 3:

Day three, Mr.McGuire woke us up by acting like rooster. It spooked me and I almost fell off the bunk. What a day all ready. Then we had breakfast. After that we had breakfast. Then we had to do our group’s final class. I can’t even remember what it was but my group had a blast.

The sad part about going to camp was leaving and going back to the school, to unload our bags. I would say that my group got a lot better at working together. The first day everybody was all excited being there. On the second day my group got a little bit better at working together and on the third day my group did really at working together. I think we got better when we had class and you had to work together as a team.

D.A.R.E. Essay

During D.A.R.E.  I have learned ways to stay away from drugs and what they can cause your body to do.  Drugs slow you down or  causes you to have cancer. Smoking cigarettes causes people to have lung cancer. When someone is smoking marijuana it cause a person to have breathing problems. It can effect your brain and body.

One of the things we talked about was alcohol. Alcohol can damage every single organ in your body and it also effects your brain and body. We got to do a test. We put on D.U.I goggles and the goggles make you dizzy. I put on the goggles and then you had to stay on a straight line and when you got to the end, you have to turn around and catch a ball. It was hard to catch a ball.

D.A.R.E means Drug, Abuse, Residence, Eduction. Another meaning for D.A.R.E is Define, Asses, Respond, Evaluate. Define means like describe a problem that you are having. Asses is what are your choices. Respond is to make a choice and evaluate means to review your choice or your decision.

When I sit down with my parents and watch the news, you see a lot of stupid things happening. People getting killed in car crashes. Since I have been in D.A.R.E, I figured out that if a person is drunk and then they drive their car. They could wreck because of the use of to much alcohol.

I think it is good to have D.A.R.E because it makes you fill like “WOW,”  I never thought about that. I think the whole point D.A.R.E is that it tells you a message. Stay drug free and you be one step closer to be passing you goal or dream. It really hurts me when I see people on the news doing drugs because they can’t achieve their goals.

My goals are to graduate and get a scholarship to go to Ohio State. Then I want to keep playing good at baseball and play for Ohio State. After college then I want to be picked up by the San Francisco Giants and be their first basemen.

I pledge to be drug free so I can do the things, I want to do.

Effort Affects Grades

I think if a student isn’t putting effort into a subject then that student have good grades. I think when someone was doing that then a teacher should grade on the student’s effort. I think this because when someone puts weak effort into something then that will effect the assignments. So they will probably have a good grade.

I think a student should get graded on Quia and Study Island because it’s a assignment. If a student isn’t putting strong effort into their assignments on Quia and Study Island then the grade would probably go down.

I’m trying to say that if someone isn’t putting effort toward their assignments then it should effect their grade. Putting strong effort into a assignment then he or she would get a better grade and if someone isn’t putting strong effort into their assignment then they have a poor grade.

I think effort reflects to someones grade.

Being Perfect

If I was perfect this is some of things that I would do. I would always get 100% on every worksheet, homework and test. I would be awesome at any sport and I would be awesome at any game I play.

I really don’t want to be perfect because it would be weird. Everyone else won’t be like me, like the people who lives on streets with home. It would boring to be perfect because…

1. Others won’t be perfect.
2. I’m fine with the way that I act.
3. My family and I would what to be close with them not going to another state because I might be rich.

I would never want to be Perfect. Mr.McGuire you would never be perfect you can’t be perfect and plus its only a title of a book.

Scary Test Graders

I think it would probably be easier to  have advanced or accelerated score on the test. I think if I had Martha grading my paper it would be hard to even get proficient. She has been having a bad day and her boss tells her that she can’t have a break until the tests are graded. I would make sure I have my best answer choices, extended responses completed, neat and restated.

Since Martha has been having a bad day then you better hope you did your best on the test because you might have Martha grading your test. You never know who could be grading your test. I think I could be around advanced.

Ways To Succeed

In Reading Workshop, we was talking about what some things we can do to pass the test. I had some things to do during the test.

The test is coming up pretty soon and I have been wondering the test. If keep it at the same rate all year then I think I could do well on the test. I have been wondering about the questions on the OAA test.

These are some ways that can help me or anyone else during the test:

1. Read the whole passage carefully just encase you miss something.

2. Read the questions first to help you find the answer in the passage.

3. Process of elimination could help you get a better chance of getting the answer right.

4. Answer all the questions. If you haven’t answered a question and still have time then work it out and find the answer.

5. After your done with the test then check you answers, you might get the same answer again but if you don’t get the same answer again then you could do it again.

I think if I use these steps then would be 100% sure of passing the OAA test.

Miami Heat

The Miami Heat has been my favorite team this year. I like them because they have Chris Bosh,  Dywane Wade and LeBron James. This year they have playing well against any  team.  They might have not well as Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls.  In the Eastern Conference Miami Heat was ranked 2nd.

Eastern Conference Standings (top 5):

1. Chicago Bulls  62-20

2. Miami Heat  58-24

3.  Boston Celtics  56-26

4.  Orlando Magic 52-30

5.  Atlanta Hawks 44-38

The Miami Heat are in the playoffs  vs. 76ers.  HEAT ALL THE WAY!!!

Predictions For Freak The Mighty

At Reading Workshop,  Mr.McGuire has been reading to us. He has been reading Freak the Mighty. Do you remember when I made another post about predictions? Well I have another one but with a different book. I have some predictions in the book Freak the Mighty. In the book, there are two boys Kevin(Freak) and Max. Max isn’t a very smart student and he is huge compared to Freak. Freak is like a miniature Einstein.

Here is some of my predictions:

1: I think the next morning Grim and Gram will find out that Max is gone and Freak will hear it to.

2: When Killer Kane covered Max’s face, I thought Max might bite Killer Kane’s hand or Max will get killed.

3: I thought Max will go to the smarter class so he could get smarter.

I only have three of them so far because thats all I could thank of. This a hilarious book to read or to listen in class when the teacher reads.  I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read.

Making Predictions

In Reading Workshop, I’m reading Change-Up: Mystery At The World Series by John Feinstein.  I have had some predictions in the book. Predictions can be about anything, you can have them in a book or maybe predictions about a person.

Prediction 1: The Washington Nationals are on to win the World Series.

Prediction 2: A mystery will happen at the World Series.

Prediction 3: Stevie will mess up something at the World Series.

As you can tell, I have predictions. If a reader doesn’t make predictions then you have choose a wrong book or you don’t get what the author is saying. Predictions makes a book exciting. I only have three predictions because I have only read seven pages so far. When I read more then I will have a lot of predictions and would keep reading to see if my prediction could be right.

Reading Workshop Comment

In Reading Workshop, we have been reading Freak the Mighty. It is a funny book.

I think that Max should be in the higher achievers class because he might get stuck on something that he doesn’t understand. When he doesn’t understand then he could get one of the smart kids to help him. A example could be, Max doesn’t  understand math then he could get help from one of the smarter kids.

If Max goes to the lower achievers then he would still not be smart in school. Then he might not pass that year and go to the next grade and he won’t see be able to see Kevin in school.
